Honey Health Benefits
There are many uses for honey. Health benefits from honey have been known in many cultures for a long time. The honey with health benefits is not the processed honey that is commonly found on your grocer’s shelf though. The best honey for health benefits is organic and unpasteurized. This article will discuss the types of honey that can be used to improve your skin.
Important Health Note: Always consult your doctor. Always consult with your doctor for any health problems or treatments for you or anyone you care for. Honey has some great properties, but your doctor’s advice should always be taken.
Manuka Honey Benefits Skin And More
Manuka honey is made by bees from Australia and New Zealand. Antibacterial properties are in Manuka honey. Acne can be treated with it and there is even promising results with staph infection. To use manuka honey to treat the skin, simply apply, let dry for 30 – 60 minutes and wash off. It’s common to feel just a slight stinging during the process. Some users notice immediate improvement while others do not notice improvement until after a few treatments.
The only drawbacks to using Manuka honey are the price, the mess, and the slight stinging. Few are allergic, but test a small area of your skin before applying to a large area to be sure.
Other types of honey have proven beneficial, but raw is the only honey for skincare. Standard honey bought in grocery stores has been cooked into more of a clear syrup that lacks most of the antibacterial properties that raw honey has. Local honey has benefits because it gives the user a dose of the pollen in their area. This is good building up resistance to allergies, but not necessary for topical application on the skin.
Honey works for would healing by naturally releasing hydrogen peroxide and by eliminating the ability for microorganisms to get the water they need to form. Honey also stimulates the body’s natural reactions to fight infection.
For the exception of the few who are allergic to honey itself, it is an inexpensive and easy method to approach skin problems.
Some common manuka products are:
- Manuka Hand Creme
- Manuka Honey Soap
- Manuka Honey Eye Cream
- Manuka Honey Gell
Manuka honey is also known to help with these other health ailments:
Ascorbic Acid Powder – Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a vital supplement for great skin and other areas of health. Vitamin C is water soluble, so it goes through the body quickly and needs constant replenishment. When taken frequently, it performs these functions:
- Part of a vital protein needed for skin, tissue, ligaments, and blood vessels
- Healing wounds and forming scar tissue
- Repairing and maintaining bones, teeth, and cartilage
- It’s an anti-oxidant and protects the body from free radicals
Many times, problems with the skin and overall appearance are nothing more than a lack of Vitamin C. Some symptoms of vitamin C deficiency are:
- Bleeding gums
- Decreased wound healing rate
- Dry hair and skin
- Easy bruising
- Gingivitis
- Weight gain
- Weakened tooth enamel
Many of these problems are targeted by health and beauty product manufacturers with products that do absolutely nothing but temporarily mask that real problem. As for the dental benefits, I’ve never heard a dentist suggest a steady dose of Vitamin C, yet it’s a major cause of so many problems that dentists encounter. Really makes one think about the reasons why something so affordable is not promoted. Some of the symptoms can be from problems other than a vitamin C deficiency, but if one is sure that they are receiving the recommended levels of vitamin C, the most common cause of these symptoms can quickly be ruled out.
The best way to get Vitamin C to the skin is through dietary intake. A vitamin supplement can be used, but eating the right foods is the best way. Vitamin C is found citrus fruits and other fruits, as well as many vegetables like broccili, tomatoes, and potatoes. There is a natural way to get more Vitamin C directly to the skin.
Ascorbic Acid Powder can be added to home made skin care products. Vitamin C lotions that are purchased may have lost the effects of the vitamin through the production process or chemicals added to increase shelf life. This inexpensive ingredient combined with other natural ingredients can be beneficial to the outer layers of the skin when applied. This is not effective on deep skin problems like aging wrinkles or deep scarring, but the effect on the outer layer are nearly immediate. Since it is water soluble, bath products like salt and sugar scrubs are not good applications for this, but massage oils and creams work very well. Ascorbic powder can also be taken orally as an alternative source of Vitamin C, but follow recommended guidelines as to much can be harmful. More than 2000 milligrams a day is to much.
Natural Homemade Baby Wipes
Making natural homemade baby wipes is a simple process. Commercial baby wipes are expensive and full of chemicals that could be harmful and they are completely unnecessary. Alcohol that dries the skin, perfumes that your baby may flair allergies, and other ingredients that manufacturers include to lower cost and increase shelf life are all in the expensive packages of commercial baby wipes. Learning how to make natural baby wipes is an easy way to lower cost and use a healthier alternative.
The different styles that can be made are -
- Just a spray bottle of solution kept next to the baby’s changing table .
- Small packets in a Ziploc baggie for easy packing on the go.
- A small plastic sealed container for handy use anywhere.
Cotton cloth or paper towels are used to soak up the solutions for a baby wipe that’s ready anytime. Bounty or Viva are popular paper towel brands used, but any soft, quality paper towel will work. Paper towels can either be pulled off of the roll and folded or the roll can be cut in half with a sharp knife to get a smaller size that will easily fold into a smaller container.
There are quite a few recipes for the natural soap solution. It’s easy to tailor the recipe to suit the needs of your baby. Here are a few that I’ve found useful. If you’re baby develops any problems, replace or add to the ingredients as needed. A natural baby wash is the base for all of them.
Olive Oil Solution
- 2 Tbsp of natural baby wash
- 2Tbsp of olive oil
- 2 cups of water
Tea Tree Oil Solution
- 2 Tbsp of natural baby wash
- 2Tbsp of olive oil or calendula oil
- 2 cups of water
- 2 drops of tea tree oil
Aloe Vera Solution
- 2 cups of hot water
- 2 drops of tea tree oil
- 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
Stir or shake the ingredients together until well mixed, then pour over paper towels or cotton cloths
Essential Oils Recipe
- 2 drops of tea tree oil
- 1 capsule of vitamin E
- 2 drops of lavendar oil(real natural only, never use synthetic)
- 2 drops of chamomile oil
- 2 cups water
Carefully cut open the vitamin E capsule and squeeze contents into mixture containing the other oils and water.
The number of wipes that can be mixed with the solution varies depending on the type of paper towels or cloth being used. A little trial and error will give a better estimate. If they seem to dry, just make some more solution and add. Take note of how much was used for the next batch made.
Using these methods, it takes very little time to make a cost saving alternative to baby wipes. If time is more important than money, you can buy all natural baby wipes as an alternative. When these wipes are used with natural diapers, there is a big reduction in the chemicals that your baby is exposed to and the result is far fewer diaper rashes and a happier baby.

Bumgenius Diapers Help Your Baby’s Skin
Bumgenius diapers are revolutionary and I think that all parents that don’t know about them will be surprised. They eliminate many of the problems caused by disposable diapers without causing inconvenience to the parent or caregiver. Bumgenius is a small American company that started with parents who had an idea. That idea just may save your baby from some serious dangers.
There are many problems associated with the chemicals in commercial disposable diapers. Some volatile organic compounds are the same toxic ingredients found in skin care products. These include -
- Toluene
- Ethylbenzene
- Xylene
- Dipentene
- Sodium Polyacrylate
- Chlorine(used to bleach the diapers)
These chemicals can cause numerous rashes and illnesses and they’re to simply avoid the mess that cloth diapers create. A parent should know about the risks and choose if they prefer cloth diapers to disposable with an informed view. The good news is that cloth diapers are not what many of us remember them as. Cloth diapers are not the simple square cotton piece of cloth that is just folded and pinned anymore. Today’s cloth diapers are much easier and cleaner to use.
So how does bumgenius change the problems of the old cloth diapers. Here is an example of how easy their hook and loop system works on a very active baby bumgenius diaper demonstration. And here’s another showing how they work.
As you can see, it’s a simple setup! When you consider the dangers of regular disposable diapers and the very high cost of organic and biodegradable diapers. Less expense and a healthy, happy, and comfortable baby are great reasons to switch to cloth diapers, but now it’s even easier than most of us would expect. If you’re having trouble finding sizes of bumgenius diapers, it’s because they fit infants from 7 to 35 pounds.
