Making natural homemade baby wipes is a simple process. Commercial baby wipes are expensive and full of chemicals that could be harmful and they are completely unnecessary. Alcohol that dries the skin, perfumes that your baby may flair allergies, and other ingredients that manufacturers include to lower cost and increase shelf life are all in the expensive packages of commercial baby wipes. Learning how to make natural baby wipes is an easy way to lower cost and use a healthier alternative.

The different styles that can be made are -

• Just a spray bottle of solution kept next to the baby’s changing table .
• Small packets in a Ziploc baggie for easy packing on the go.
• A small plastic sealed container for handy use anywhere.

Cotton cloth or paper towels are used to soak up the solutions for a baby wipe that’s ready anytime. Bounty or Viva are popular paper towel brands used, but any soft, quality paper towel will work. Paper towels can either be pulled off of the roll and folded or the roll can be cut in half with a sharp knife to get a smaller size that will easily fold into a smaller container.

There are quite a few recipes for the natural soap solution. It’s easy to tailor the recipe to suit the needs of your baby. Here are a few that I’ve found useful. If you’re baby develops any problems, replace or add to the ingredients as needed. A natural baby wash is the base for all of them.

Olive Oil Solution

• 2 Tbsp of natural baby wash
• 2Tbsp of olive oil
• 2 cups of water

Tea Tree Oil Solution

• 2 Tbsp of natural baby wash
• 2Tbsp of olive oil or calendula oil
• 2 cups of water
• 2 drops of tea tree oil

Aloe Vera Solution

• 2 cups of hot water
• 2 drops of tea tree oil
• 1/4 cup aloe vera gel

Stir or shake the ingredients together until well mixed, then pour over paper towels or cotton cloths

Essential Oils Recipe

• 2 drops of tea tree oil
• 1 capsule of vitamin E
• 2 drops of lavendar oil(real natural only, never use synthetic)
• 2 drops of chamomile oil
• 2 cups water

Carefully cut open the vitamin E capsule and squeeze contents into mixture containing the other oils and water.

The number of wipes that can be mixed with the solution varies depending on the type of paper towels or cloth being used. A little trial and error will give a better estimate. If they seem to dry, just make some more solution and add. Take note of how much was used for the next batch made.

Using these methods, it takes very little time to make a cost saving alternative to baby wipes. If time is more important than money, you can buy all natural baby wipes as an alternative. When these wipes are used with natural diapers, there is a big reduction in the chemicals that your baby is exposed to and the result is far fewer diaper rashes and a happier baby.
